Wimbledon Season Fun at Fish Hoek Tennis Club

-

Wimbledon 2026 gave Fish Hoek Tennis Club plenty of reasons to celebrate, both on court and in the clubhouse.

Throughout the tournament, members gathered to watch matches on the clubhouse television. At times, this meant juggling between Wimbledon, Springboks rugby and FIFA World Cup fixtures. It was a very good month for sport!

One of the highlights was the Tuesday and Thursday Morning League ladies’ Wimbledon Tea on Thursday, 9 July. Dressed in “Wimbledon Whites,” the ladies enjoyed English sandwiches, scones, strawberries and cream, champagne, orange juice and a fun tennis quiz. The clubhouse looked beautiful, with vintage teacups, lavender and plenty of thoughtful Wimbledon touches.

A few FHTC members also traveled to England to experience Wimbledon in person. Their photos gave the rest of us a glimpse of the atmosphere and excitement at the All England Club.

On Saturday, 11 July, our usual social tennis session also adopted a Wimbledon Whites dress code. Members brought strawberries and cream to share, then stayed late to watch the Ladies’ Singles Final (there may have been a switch to watch the Springboks’ 42-28 win over Scotland).

The celebrations ended on Sunday, 12 July, when members gathered to watch the Men’s Singles Final. Jannik Sinner defeated Alexander Zverev in four sets, while everyone enjoyed Eton Mess and drinks served by our ever-reliable club manager and barman, Jeff Lewis.

Thank you to everyone who organized, contributed, and joined in the fun. Wimbledon 2026 was a memorable one at FHTC!
